THE GREATER TORONTO READING GROUP

WHO ARE WE  & HOW DO WE WORK

As indicated in our name, The Greater Toronto Reading Group (GTRG), is made up of a number of individuals residing in the Toronto area who get together on a monthly basis to discuss and share opinions on a book we have all agreed to read. It is our hope that, through the magic of the internet, vistors to this web page will take the opportunity (via the guestbook) to add their comments in regard to the books we are reading. In that way we should be able to share our discussions with a larger global community.

The Reading Group was established in 1995 for the express purpose of bringing together a group of people who found pleasure in reading and wished to share the experience with other enthusiasts.  It was decided that the although there would be  no restriction place in terms of genre or author it was necessary to loosely enforce a few guidelines.  Primarily we read works of fiction in a novel format although if a member wishes to propose a deviation it has been put to a vote.  The books are generally three to four hundred pages and must be readily available in paperback or trade publications as well as from the library. In September of 2003 we fine tuned the selection process by creating 'The List' as a guideline for the choices that are made.

As a general rule we meet on the last Tuesday of the month at the home of one of the local members.  The host will have selected the book (from 'The List')to be discussed  and begin the meeting with an informal presentation. Needless to say the discussions can get quite lively.  There is also a newsletter produced by our recording secretary (as somewhat fancy name for the person who keeps track of what going on) which keeps us up to date in regard to selections and what may have transpired at the previous meeting. We also do have a number of social get togethers over the course of the year.

If you would like to join the Greater Toronto Reading Group please Contact Us and sign the guestbook indicating your interest. We are currently looking for one or two new members to round out our discussions.
