Special Events
(and Friends)
From time to time the Greater Toronto Reading Group steps outside of the parameters of our monthly meetings and something special occurs. This can mean anything from a change in the format of the these meetings to an outing such as a movie or a play or a book reading.
A Robbie Burns Dinner has become an annual highlight of the January meeting thanks to the generosity and ingenuity of long time member David Lawson. We have had authors contribute to our discussions and we have watched movies that offer insight on the books we are reading. When J. K. Rawlings (of Harry Potter fame) came to town, a few of us joined the predominantly youthful throngs at the Sky Dome, to listen to her speak.
Also falling under the heading of special events would be times of celebrations remembered with friends. The birth of a child, a marriage or for that matter parties attended and good times shared. We also have many honorary members in the group who for one reason or another do not wish to/or are able to be a part of the regular monthly meetings. It seems fitting that these friends fall under the overall category of Special Events.
Sometimes we have chronicled these events with pictures, sometimes we collect information that is worth sharing with those who couldn't attend. Therefore, in reality this Special Events page is the Greater Toronto Reading Group Scrapbook of memories.
